At a glance

  • Stay up to 5 years per entry

  • Host must meet minimum income

  • $100,000+ private medical insurance for 1 year

  • Immigration medical exam

  • Apply from outside Canada

New in 2026: more ways to meet the income requirement

From March 31, 2026, IRCC counts host income in two new ways. Read the IRCC notice.

  • The host, and a co-signer if there is one, can qualify using either of the two tax years before applying, not only the last one.
  • If the host meets a required minimum share, the visiting parent or grandparent's own income can be added to make up the rest.

If you were told you did not qualify before, it may be worth checking again.

What is a Super Visa?

It is a visitor visa for a parent or grandparent of a child or grandchild in Canada. That child or grandchild is a citizen, a permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act. Stays are often up to five years per entry. IRCC decides the length.

Confirm the current rules on canada.ca.

Eligibility checklist

IRCC applies the rules. This is the short list we check with you.

  • The applicant is a parent or grandparent of someone in Canada.
  • The child or grandchild writes an invitation.
  • The host meets the minimum income for the family size.
  • Private medical insurance is at least $100,000 for one year from entry.
  • The parent or grandparent completes an immigration medical exam.
  • They apply from outside Canada and meet admissibility rules.

If a Super Visa is not the right fit, we will say so.

Host income

The host must meet IRCC's minimum income for the family size. Amounts change each year, so check IRCC's current table. Use IRCC's proof of financial support page. The 2026 changes are in the section above.

Want the income read against your family?

Book a $50 phone consultation before you buy a policy or book a medical exam.

Insurance and the medical exam

  • At least $100,000 of coverage.
  • Health care, hospitalization, and repatriation.
  • Valid for at least one year from entry.
  • Paid up front, or proven the way IRCC currently accepts.

Coverage can come from a Canadian insurer or, where IRCC allows, an OSFI-authorized foreign insurer. The policy wording has to match. IRCC and the insurer's terms govern.

They also complete an immigration medical exam with a panel physician. We line up the exam and the insurance so the file is coherent.

Honest purpose of visit

A Super Visa is a temporary visit, not permanent residence. A long stay is a fair goal, and the purpose of the visit still has to be stated honestly. We will not help anyone misstate their plans.

Documents and steps

Every family is a little different. This is the usual set. Processing times vary, and IRCC decides the application.

Documents

  1. Invitation letter from the host.
  2. Proof of the relationship.
  3. Proof the host is a citizen, permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act.
  4. Proof of income.
  5. Medical insurance proof.
  6. Immigration medical exam.
  7. Forms, fees, and biometrics.

Steps

  1. Decide whether Super Visa fits better than a short visitor visa.
  2. Check family size against the IRCC income table.
  3. Arrange insurance and the medical exam.
  4. Put the documents together.
  5. Submit, then answer any IRCC request.

Frequently asked questions

How long can my parents stay?

Many parents can stay up to 5 years at a time. The visa can allow multiple entries for up to 10 years. The border officer still decides each entry, and older applications can differ. Confirm the current rule on IRCC's length-of-stay page.

Can the visit be extended inside Canada?

Before the authorized stay ends, they can leave Canada or apply from inside Canada to extend the visit. IRCC decides whether to grant an extension. See IRCC's length-of-stay page.

Can parents from any country apply?

They apply from outside Canada if they are a parent or grandparent and they meet the rules. Visa-required and visa-exempt passports are handled differently. Admissibility still applies. IRCC sets the steps for the visa office.

Is a Super Visa permanent residence?

No. It is a temporary visit. Sponsoring a parent for permanent residence is a different program, and new interest forms are paused.

What income does my host need?

The host must meet IRCC's minimum for the family size. The amounts change. Use the official income table, and read the 2026 changes above.

Do you guarantee approval?

No. We prepare the file with care. IRCC decides every application.

Can we discuss in Punjabi or Hindi?

Yes. English, Punjabi, and Hindi. Tell us which you prefer when you book the $50 consultation.
